TherapistsWe are currently compiling information from our networks wherein we've asked folks for therapists that they feel they've had success with, and that we feel have a good knowledge of autism behind them. Sadly, it isn't a huge list yet. In Manhattan Lynda Geller, PhD, is
someone GRASP has worked with since our inception. She has a distinguished
history with the Cody Center, SUNY, and Asperger Foundation International.
In the Long Island/Queens
area In Long Island Gina-Marie Muscillo, CCCSLP, Fully Licensed
Speech Language Pathologist, Coordinator of Language and Education Services,
Fay J. Lindner Center for Autism North Shore Long Island Jewish Health
System. Provides child, youth, teen, and young adult social communication
therapy, social skills programming, treatment and educational consultation
(center based and school based), oversees our school based consultation
program. Areas of practice: social underpinnings of executive function
difficulties (compounded by pragmatic language impairments) secondary
to the diagnosis of autism, social communication and perspective taking
issues, the interpretation and decoding of higher order language skills
e.g. sarcasm, ambiguity, figurative language in oral and written contexts,
adolescent issues, co-programming girls sexuality programs, and figuring
out the relationship puzzle at various stages and ages. Peter Wigg, Psy.D. is a psychologist who
works with the Cody Center in addition to holding a private practice.
